YOGA
Yoga can change your life. It first begins by changing your body, your mind-body connection and your breath. Yoga means to yoke- to unite. This union is between oneself and the universe. Anyone at any fitness level and at any age can benefit from beginning a yoga practice. One can gain supreme control over one’s body, in turn promotes control of the mind and freedom of spirit. Once a stable practice has been established-postures [asanas], breath control [Pranayama] and Meditation [Dhyana]. Yoga asanas tone and strengthen the whole person’s body, mind, spirit. Even through [asana] is the physical movements, yoga will, quickly begin to work its magic.Patanjali, a Sage and a pioneer of classical yoga who synthesized, and organized knowledge about yoga from older traditions, compiled a collection of 196 Indian sutras on the theory and practice of yoga. He writes ‘Yoga Chitta Vritti Nirodha’ which means yoga is stilling the mind in order to experience ultimate reality and move towards self-realization.
Maintaining a regular yoga practice can provide physical and mental health benefits. Some are-weight reduction-cardio and circulatory health-protection from injury-maintaining a balanced metabolism-increased mind/ body connection-increased general well-being. The yoga classes and privates I offer are for every level of fitness, beginner to advanced. The student can choose from Vinyasa ,hatha, yin, yoga styles. Class duration depends on the style and level of practice. these can range from 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours, workshops go on for longer around 2/3 hours.
